Keyword Research
Keyword research is still an important part of SEO, but it isn’t as complex as it once was. Yeah see, it used to be that you needed to have exact match keywords in order to outrank your competition for specific keyword phrases. That is no longer the case.Google now relies on semantics, which means they look at context and meaning and not just the words used.
Let’s say you find they keyword phrase “improve golf swing”. It used to be that if you had that phrase in your title, but someone searched for “improve my golf swing”, a site using “improve my golf swing” would usually outrank you in that search, given all other ranking factors such as back links were the same. Now, you could rank well for any number of variations, such as “improve your golf swing”, “how to improve my golf swing”, “improving golf swing” and even “get a better golf swing”.
The main tool that people used to use to find keywords, even most of the top paid keyword tools, was the Google Keyword Tool. Unfortunately, Google has changed the way this tool works and it is no longer possible to get the same level of data as before. AdWords users can still use the tool, but exact traffic data is not available.
There are several good keyword tolls available that can give you ideas for keywords you can use, but there’s no good way to find out approximately how many searches that phrase might get each month.
Keyword Use:
Now that you understand they way keyword research works, you need to understand how to use those keywords. It’s no longer necessary to repeat keywords several times in your content in order to reach some specific keyword density. In fact, that could actually hurt you. Instead, you need to focus more on writing great content.Your keyword should be located in the following locations:
- In your page’s title
- In your page’s meta description
- At least once in the content
- Ideally in the page’s URL (http://www.domain.com/keyword-phrase)
- You can also add the keyword in these locations:

Remember that you don’t have to include keyword variations. Just use your main keyword and concentrate on creating great content and following other best practices.

Content Length:
Content length is a hot topic in SEO, and while there is really no one best length, in general, articles over 1,000 words seem to rank better than shorter works.Of course, that isn’t to say that you must write over 1,000 word every single time. I certain don’t. I concentrate on writing exactly the length I need to write in order to say what needs to be said on a given topic.

Social Signals:

Basically, if content is really great, people are going to be talking about it and sharing it.For this reason, you need to include social sharing options on all of your content to make it easy for people to share it. Mobile Friendly:
Contrary to popular belief, Google is not giving a penalty to sites that aren’t mobile friendly, however it IS giving a boost to sites that are. With well over half of all traffic (some estimates say up to 75%) coming from mobile, it’s no wonder Google wants to present mobile users with content they can actually read. (Have you ever visited a non-responsive website on a phone? They can be nearly impossible to read, and zooming and panning can be frustrating!)If you’re using WordPress, be sure to choose a responsive theme that will automatically adjust based on which device a user is visiting your site through. For standard websites, you’ll need to use a script that can detect mobile devices and redirect that traffic to a mobile friendly version of your site.
Rich Snippets:
I’m sure you’ve searched Google and seen rich snippets in use. Spammers know if they link to a high quality site, their traffic is gone for good and will never click and ad. Real webmasters, on the other hand, like to link to quality sites because they want their visitors to have a good experience and come back.
Whenever you’re writing an article, if you found some of your information on another website, be sure to use an attribution link. This is not only a best practice as far as being polite, it’s also great for SEO purposes.
